Iris Diaphragms are usually mounted under the condenser which controls the amount of light converging on the specimen by opening or closing the leaf diaphragm.
Disc Diaphragms are a circular disc, located under the stage platform; they can contain five or six apertures of various sizes. These control the size of illumination of the cone converging on the specimen.
