The new EF28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS USM is an entirely new L-series design lens (and a significantly enhanced successor to Canon?s EF35-350mm f/3.5-5.6L USM zoom introduced 11 years ago). Though it offers 11x zoom capabilities (compared with the 10x capability of its predecessor), this newly designed, 22-element L-series lens combines Canon?s newest optical glass advances, faster autofocus and a groundbreaking Image Stabilization system that makes capturing incredible images a snap, even when the zoom is at max, the shutter speed is slow and the camera is handheld. Professional Performance at an Affordable Price.

by aashok , Jul 12, 2004
Pros: Superior fluorite element, low weight, f4 constant aperture, solid construction, excellent price.
Cons: Lens collar not included, no image stabilization, dirty white color.
The Bottom Line: This is a versatile, relatively lightweight 70-200mm lens. It has professional quality optics delivering a remarkably good performance. And at $550, it is a bargain.

Pros: Exceedingly sharp, great color/contrast, light, smooth operating, internal focus, price
Cons: Many seem to have autofocus inaccuracy issues (discussed in review)
The Bottom Line: If you're fortunate enough get one that autofocuses accurately, it's an excellent lens. Razor sharp with superb color/contrast.
