I can't put my Apple iBook down. While I use a p4 Sony PCG-FRV28 w/ 2.8 ghz processor for work & play - this Apple iBook has got to be one of the best portables going. The light factor really comes into play for me, being that the Sony is a brick in when compared to the little sleek iBook. Sure, the Sony packs more features but -- if you are looking for a 'good all around, light portable notebook' the iBook is made for you. Boasting built in CDRW features, the g4 processor (for running Tiger OSX), and I boosted the memory up to 1gig. It runs all my applications nice (office, iWork, Adobe CS apps) and is a great little iTunes device. The thing I didn't like about the iBook 500 g3 (my last ibook) was that the display didn't tilt back far enough. I was very happy to learn that Apple fixed that in the iBook g4
Built in Extreme wireless is a MUST. Don't buy this notebook without it. I also suggest putting in some more memory if you're going to get down to business with her and start running some serious applications, 256mb just doesn't cut it when running tiger OSX (10.4) , in my opinion.
Nice thing about OSX : it asks for your password to install ANY programs. So, say goodbye to spyware that installs in the background without you knowing it. Its great to know Apple is thinking ahead of windows (again)
