Author's Review
Bought this off of Amazon a couple of months ago. I've been using it with an external antenna that was purchased off eBay. I haven't had trouble with it except that some of the maps are bit outdated, but that is an issue with any GPS receiver. It has its maps stored on a 1GB SD card so the maps can be updated when updates become available.
When I first use it in the morning, it can take a few minutes to synchronize with the GPS satellites to get my position. After that, it doesn't lose satellite track and can tell me exactly where I am.
When I had to rent a car, I was able to move the unit easily to the other vehicle and use the internal antenna. Again, it didn't lose satellite track and showed me my position.
The voice directions are clear and easy to understand. The device will even tell you the name of the street if the name is in its database. It will say the street name exactly as it is entered, e.g. "O-H Five Ninety One" or "K-Y One thousand five hundred ninety five". When approaching a turn, it will show you a preview of the turn, the arrow in the direction of the turn and how far the turn is.
If you get off track, it will recalculate your route on the fly and tell you how to get back on track.
This GPS has 5 million waypoints so if you need to find something, this can find it. It has everything from gas stations to hospitals to hotels or anything else you might need while on the road.
The device can tell you ETA to next turn, ETA to destination, current time, current speed, direction (either true or magnetic) and a fairly detailed map of the area. As you speed up, the map expands out and filters out the little details to give you a bigger picture of the area and of the road.
This GPS receiver can also play MP3s and show pictures, but I haven't used these features because this is not why I bought it. I bought it for navigation and that what is does.
