wouldn't buy again

When my husband and I were looking to buy a dishwasher I came across this KitchenAid dishwasher at Lowe's.I had to talk my husband into this brand over the nice Maytag he wanted. I own several KitchenAid small appliances(mixer,blender,toaster) and I think they are such good quality appliances so I thought this would be the same. This dishwasher looks so nice on the outside but I've had problems with it cleaning my dishes. I was excited the first time I ran a load of dishes through my new KitchenAid dishwasher. When I opened the door after the cycle was complete I was surprised to see that the compartment that holds the detergent never even opened. The small amount of pre-wash detergent was the only detergent that went into the wash cycle so some of the dishes appeared clean and other dishes had food still crusted on them. I decided to try the wash cycle again and this time the detergent compartment did open. The dishes were then clean after 2 cycles. I never did get my dishes very clean even after the detergent compartment would open on the next few loads of dishes. I tried Cascade Complete dishwashing detergent and that has helped to get my dishes cleaner.I also use the heavy duty setting on the dishwasher to help get my dishes clean. The detergent compartment still malfunctions 2-3 times a month. I am making due with my KitchenAid dishwasher but next time I decide to buy another dishwasher I will stick with Maytag.I'll leave KitchenAid for my small appliance purchases.
