How long until it breaks?
Date of Review: Aug 23, 2008
The Bottom Line: Although phone is great for the fitness or music fanatic who was some technical know-how, I would steer clear as this phone just breaks too easily.
This is the first time in 8 years I've purchased a phone that wasn't made by nokia (I guess you could say I'm partial to their cell phones). I decided to go with something new and cool, the new walkman slider phone from sony.
The phone definately doesn't disappoint in terms of features. You can set multiple alarm clocks to go off consistently on certain days, perfect for your work day as well as, say, that one o'clock medication you forget to take every day. The phone has a built in calendar that you can set tasks and reminders for, a section for "notes", as well as a task reminder. This phone has an exceptionally good camera phone and game graphics. The camera is also very easy to use. This phone also has a cool fitness feature that tracks how many steps you take, how far/fast you run, and more!
Next let's talk about the main selling point of this phone: the music! This phone has a built in fm radio that works with special headphones that come with it, and this feature is fantastic! Not so great for the gym, but for everyday walking around or on your commute on the train it works great. The phone also has mp3 capabilities IF you buy a memory stick for it, which will run you another $60ish. I had LOTS of trouble getting this feature to work in conjunction with my laptop computer, but once a friend was able to get it working, I really did love this feature. It's great to just turn on the music and get ready in the morning, have it in the car, etc.
The huge negative side of this phone is that, although I did drop it a few times, one day it fell off my car seat onto the ground and it completely smashed the screen. Therefore, if you need a durable phone, this is not the phone for you. Also because of this incident I bought a new one, and on both phones each individual key split down the middle. This doesn't affect the performance of the phone, just the look.
One more important note is that this phone is not the easiest to use and learn to use. The keys are very small and would pose difficulty to anyone with large fingers. You need some prior knowledge of how to use a cell phone to be able to navigate this phone as well.
Overall, if you are technology-savy and take good care of your electronics and/or are a fitness/music fanatic, this phone would be perfect for you!
UPDATE: I used my second sony walkman phone for approximately 5 months before the "#" key started giving me trouble, and within a month, it almost never works at all. You don't realize how much you use this key until it is gone, as I can no longer make spaces between my words in text messages, nor can I check my voicemail (which requires hitting pound) for work. Same with any other phone calls you would need to make with pound. Overall, using 2 phones and having them both not function properly after two years, I am going to not recommend this phone to people at all anymore.
