Pros:  nice to have a copier on hand

Cons:  eats the paper a lot and won't take the paper in very well.

Overall Rating: 2/5 stars

Author's Review

We home school our kids and I thought a copier would be a wonderful extra to have around. I called around to find the cheapest one available and this is the one I came up with. I guess you get what you pay for.

From the beginning I've had a lot of problems with this copier. I'm not that smart on copiers, but they are supposed to do what the book says they do, right?

You aren't supposed to have to buy a certain kind of paper for it, but there is only one brand that it doesn't seem to 'eat.' The one I have to buy is a more expensive, thicker quality paper that I can only get at Sam's. We live an hour away from the closest Sam's so it's not real convenient. This copier also has trouble pulling the paper into the machine and I have to feed it in. That's a pain because that means I have to stand there the whole time I'm making copies.

You are supposed to be able to set the machine to do up to 10 copies, but since I can't leave the area, that doesn't work for me. I don't think I've ever made more than 2 or 3 copies without having some kind of problem with the machine. Either the paper gets jammed, it doesn't take the paper at all, or the ink light comes on showing low on ink, and won't copy anything. That has happened with brand new ink cartridges, too.

The ink cartridge I have in it right now only has a few copies made from it and it's was a dud cartridge. I paid close to $100 for this cartridge and it leaves 3 huge black streaks down the paper. I cleaned the machine a couple of times and then finally told my husband that he needed to clean it. I thought that might be the problem, but he called the Xerox company and they told him how to clean it. We did that and it was basically the same way I had been cleaning it, but after about 2 copies, it was doing the streaks again. They said it must be the ink cartridge. Well, seeing as how it's a Xerox ink cartridge, made especially for this copier, he asked them if there was some kind of warranty on it. The answer to that one is "no." Now we have to either put up with these ink streaks or go and buy a new cartridge. I'm tempted to just buy a new copier and I don't think it would be a Xerox. I don't know if all the Xerox machines are like this or if it's just the cheap ones. Or maybe we just got a lemon machine.

I wouldn't recommend this copier if you want a hassle free copier. Maybe if we had paid a little more for a better one, we wouldn't be having these problems.
