Parenting is their Business!

Even as a working mother, I was initially hesitant to subscribe to this magazine. Many covers featured high-profile, success-driven, career track women who seemed to have it all. I was convinced that as a mom who enjoys a successful career but nonetheless puts family first, I would be immersed in content that focused on squeezing children and family in between meetings and conference calls rather than the parenting advice and support that I desperately wanted.

Well, the saying is true -- you can't judge a book (or in this case, a magazine) by its covers. Working Mother has become a tremendous resource for me and is a magazine that I trust, support and recommend to both working and stay at home mothers.

In addition to sensitively, honestly and sensibly addressing the fears, joys, doubts, highs and lows of combining a career with family, the magazine serves as an inspiration with profiles of women who have fought to make mothers a respected part of the modern workforce. No matter what the job title or salary, I feel a kinship with many of these women and feel better knowing that many of them face the same challenges that I do.

Working Mother consistently provides insightful information like surveys on a state-by-state and/or company-to-company basis on the quality of everything from maternity leaves to adoption laws, daycare standards to father's rights, and legislation affecting families and children. This is valuable information for all parents. Working Mother respects women in both the home and the workplace, providing tips for career growth right alongside tips on toys, discipline, dinnertime, fashion, childhood phases and getting back into shape after childbirth.

And despite my fears that this magazine would merely be propaganda for promoting cutthroat career growth, it instead focuses on the many facets of work: how to propose a flexible schedule, job sharing, returning to work after your kids are grown, choosing childcare, negotiating maternity leave, managing time, and how to make the decision to quit working altogether.

Working Mother is a wonderful, supportive resource for any working mother...whether she works on Wall Street or at Wal-Mart.
