Solid Little Sucker
Date of Review: Aug 15, 2008
The Bottom Line: The look and quality of this microwave was how we decided on our whole appliance set. Good buy
I got this microwave when we were replacing our old appliances, and mainly we chose them because of this microwave's design. I like the simplicity of the look, and the black and stainless cooperate without one dominating the other.
We decided to install it ourselves as we had a tile backsplash and didn't want to drill into it, so we used pieces from the provided installation pieces as well as adding our own to secure it to the cabinetry as well as higher up on the wall than the original pieces allow. So, I can't provide quite an accurate review of the stability, but what we rigged up with it is rock solid, so the pieces are sound. You never feel like you need to push back on the microwave with your other hand as you pull the door open.
The microwave cooks evenly, and the exterior is really easy to clean. You pretty much only have to wipe it down with a dry cloth, and occasionally clean with a stainless steel cleaner (once every other week or so). The face plate smudges a bit from pushing buttons, but it's easy to wipe down. The presets work great, the potatoes are soft and fluffy and my popcorn is never burned. It's got a simple interface, and figuring out the menu is as easy as quick entering in a time to warm up some brownies. The light underneath is a nice feature and makes cooking on the range better.
My favorite feature, however, is that the vent automatically turns on if the unit gets too hot. So if I'm cooking stirfry on the range and it gets really serious, the microwave takes things into its own hands and cools things down. It has two speeds, "seriously loud" and "is this thing even on?" But it does clear the air nicely, and gives the option to recirculate or vent out of the house.
The unit can be a bit on the louder side, but it looks great, cooks well, and cleans easily.
