Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore make a great team for this awesome movie. In this great flick Adam Sandler is the wedding singer. However, the twist to the plot comes when his own engagement falls apart. The movie shows him trying to put his life and career back together after this happens.
The best part of this movie may just be the outstanding soundtrack. I bought the soundtrack a long time before I bought the movie. You will hear great hits from the 80s that are not better off forgotten. Some of these hits include White Wedding, Do You Really Want To Hurt Me?, China Girl, and Blue Monday. If you see this movie only for the music, it will be worth it.
This movie shows a turn in Adam Sandlers career. Before this movie he played very odd characters, that were much like his Saturday Night Live Skits. This movie and his latest Big Daddy show a different side of Sandler. It shows a more sensitive and less childish version of himself.
The characters he plays in these two movies are much easier to identify with. He is still funny, he just plays characters that you love more now, which drew in a new audience. Adam Sandlers target audience has always been young males. That group can identify and enjoy his humor more, as a generalization. These new characters he has played targets a much larger audience. I would say that this is an improvement, since in order to succeed in Hollywood, he has to gain a lot of fans.
There are many that dont appreciate Drew Barrymores work. I, on the other hand, love the roles she has played. She is definitely a great actress, despite her childhood mishaps. In this film she plays opposite Sandler, and plays off his humor quite well.
Even when Sandler is playing a man in severe depression he makes me laugh uncontrollably. This is the mark of a great comedian. To be able to make the audience laugh no matter what the situation is an art not many are capable of.
I recommend this movie to anyone who remembers the 80s. Even if you are too young or old to remember the 80s this movie will make you laugh and cry. I was only 6 in 1985, the year this movie is based in, but I still love this movie. If you do end up enjoying this movie you may want to check out Sandlers Big Daddy. If you are feeling adventurous, you may even like Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, or Airheads.
