WWII Romeo and Juliet

Okay, for those of you who haven't figured it out yet, I'm a hopeless romantic, so romance movies (if they're well-written and acted) automatically get three stars. The other two depend on just how well written and how well acted the movie is. A Walk in the Clouds deserves all it gets.

The first time I saw Keanu Reeves, he had long hair and his major line was 'Dude'. Seeing him in a serious, romantic role was quite a switch and Reeves pulled it off beautifully.

Reeves's character Paul is a WWII vet who returns home to his barely known bride only to discover that he really doesn't want to be married to her in the first place. While working as a traveling chocolate salesman (okay, that one was goofy), Paul meets Victoria. The two keep running into each other; Paul finds out she has a problem and offers to help. That's all the plot I'm going in to.

The plot was simple enough, which was ideal for the romance angle. It's dialouge was easy to understand and sweet. There were a few humorous moments and many romantic ones. (The best two included the grapes/vineyard -- you have to see it if you want to know.)

The chemistry between Paul and Victoria was hot and the two played off of each other beautifully. They made me truly believe they were in love. Their passion was just that and their complex relationship was portrayed wonderfully.

All in all, this is a great movie. It's definately one of the best love story films I've seen. Also, especially for a romance, it was extremely clean. Very little language. No nudity (unless you count a bra) and no sex (unless making out is included). It was cleaner than most of what's on network television. Great for a date.
