The Vita Mix 5000 has to be the very best investment that anyone who spends a lot of time in the kitchen can make. I bought this blender not knowing half of what it could do. I wanted it just because I saw the demonstrator make some soft serve ice cream with it and a brain freeze. That is all it took to hook me.
This blender has an amazing 2horsepower motor that will put the average household blender to shame. It can grind, chop, juice, freeze and even make hot steaming soup. I have so far made my own ice cream, smoothies, brainfreezes. I have done my own ground beef, grated cheese and shredded potatos for hashbrowns with it. And next month I will start making my own baby food. One of the neatest things about this blender is it variable speed knob. This option allows you to add fruits or vegetables later and not completely chop them to pieces. It is great for chunky soups or even ice cream with real fruit bites in it.
If your into making breads or other doughs the dry blender will grind up your own wheat to make fresh flour then you can add the rest of your ingredients and it will even knead the dough for you. Coffee beans? No Problem, in less then a minute you have ground coffee. There really isn't anything this blender couldn't do. At first, I wasn't sure if wanted to keep this thing because I could think of a bunch of other things I could buy with the money, but when my husband said we will keep it... I knew he was hooked too.
The Vita Mix has to also be the easiest blender to clean. Throw some water in it and let a whirl for a couple of seconds and it is good to go.
The price tag is pretty steep but well worth it. I paid $399.00 for the deluxe set. It came with the wet blender and the dry blender. It also came with an extensive cookbook and starter guide and also a grains cookbook and a video to show you how to use it and some of the other things it can do. This blender also comes with a "tamper", this helps you push down ice and other ingredients into the blades without actually touching it itself.
One thing I have noticed, is that everywhere I go I am seeing Vita Mixes around. Orange Julius uses them for their smoothies and some local espresso stands use them too.
I have 2 problems with this blender which are the noise factor and warranty. On high, this blender is loud and I mean loud. The other is it only comes with a 7 year warranty. I would think with the price they could afford a lifetime or at least 15 year warranty since they claim this will be the last blender you ever buy.
All in all, I would recommend it. Happy Blending!
