The Great Pretender: Vertigo

Date of Review:  May 21, 2004
The Bottom Line: Vertigo is a good mystery that has been overly hyped. Worth watching but not "THE GREATEST" film it's cracked up to be.

"There's one born every minute." P. T. Barnum

" ... you can't fool all of the people all of the time." Abraham Lincoln

VERTIGO: Don't look down!

Date of Review:  Dec 5, 2002
The Bottom Line: This film brings the term "classic Hitchcock" to a whole new level.
Review: It has been said that during the 1950s, Hitchcock was really making a name for himself. Having directed films such as Strangers on a Train, Rear Window and Dial M for Murder, Hitchcock was on his way to some big money, despite directing some...

Dizzying Heights

Date of Review:  Dec 4, 2000
Review: Hailed as unparalleled, a masterpiece, one of the best films, ever. At the time it was made and first released, it was dismissed by most reviewers; called dark, unrealistic, unacceptable for the average movie-goer by critics. What it was was a...

Vertigo - Jimmy Stewart Became Obsessed With Kim Novak

Date of Review:  Nov 23, 2008
The Bottom Line: Vertigo was another well done movie by Alfred Hitchcock.  It did have a few problems, but it is still worth watching.
Review: Alfred Hitchcock made several suspenseful movies during his career.  Some of them, like Psycho, Rear Window, and The Birds are now considered to be some of the best movies ever made.  I haven't seen all of his movies, but I have enjoyed the ones...

"I look UP, I look DOWN, I look UP, I look...."

Date of Review:  Oct 11, 2000
Review: I am going to go out on a limb here and say I don't think this is the best Hitchcock flick I have ever seen. While it has an intriguing story line and features one of my favorite old timers, Jimmy Stewart, it does not create the excitement of the...

Probably Alfred Hitchcock's Masterpiece

Date of Review:  Mar 6, 2009
The Bottom Line: Essential Viewing. Many have called Vertigo Hitchcock's greatest movie. His directorial style an screenplay is probably at its finest.
Review: Released in 1958, Vertigo opened to fairly mixed reviews and wasn’t a box office success. Locked away into the archives by Hitchcock it wouldn’t be rereleased until 25 years later. Absence certainly made the heart grow fonder, and Vertigo is now...

"Scottie, do you believe someone dead can enter and take possession of a living person?"

Date of Review:  Apr 18, 2003
The Bottom Line: A great romantic thriller, and a must for all serious movie lovers.
Review: How does one go about recommending this great film, a film I consider to be Alfred Hitchcock's masterpiece? "Vertigo" is certainly one of the great romantic classics from one of Hollywood's greatest directors, the master of suspense himself. Not a...

I Hate this movie!

Date of Review:  Feb 27, 2000
Review: Heh, caught you attention, didn't I? Forget it, I love this movie too much. I have seen many Hitchcock films, and this is the only one I truly love. Hitchcock throws away his suspense movie format to direct a startling, dreamy (this word is used...

VERTIGO was no PICNIC, but Judy fell for Hitch in the end!

Date of Review:  Jan 16, 2000
The Bottom Line: Hitchcock's VERTIGO, like many of his films, explores guilt about women, desire and death. Unlike some others, an ordinary, decent man -- like Alfred Hitchcock -- is to blame.
Review: Perhaps one should not make crude puns about a great motion picture, but my title here is one I'm sure the master suspense director, Alfred Hitchcock (1899-1980), in an unguarded moment, might have appreciated, in private if not in public. From his...

Love Lost and Found: Alfred Hitchcock's "Vertigo"

Date of Review:  Jun 18, 2001
The Bottom Line: Vertigo is an essential part of the Hitchcock oeuvre.
Review: "I'm not mad! I don't want to die. There's someone within me, and she says that I must die."
--Madeleine Elster, Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo

The easiest way to identify a master filmmaker is to observe how well his or her work...
