It's a lip, it's a lip it's a lip, lip, lip!

We just got this video today and it has already been watched three times.
it's a cute story and has the added bonus of one of our favorite silly songs with larry - "it's a lip, it's a lip, it's lip, lip, lip!"

It's so good on so many levels. yes it recounts the story of david and goliath, but I think my two older children (and myself) actually got a more important lesson from it - little kids can do big things.

My kids are 2, 4, 6, and 11. While there are only 17 months between the 4 and 6 year old that gap increases when one goes to 1st grade and one stays home - the playing field will be more level next year. My older two tend to boss around the younger two. This formula works because the younger two adore them and would do anything to please them.

This video showed them in a fun way, more than mom yelling and lecturing, that little kids have feelings too and they can do many things that big kids can do.

dave the baby asparagus is bossed around by his bigger brothers - they pick on him and make work for him to do - gee I think they actually animated my kids. when the brothers go off to war to fight the french peas dave is left home alone because everyone thinks he is too little to be able to fight. no one believes this little guy can keep up with the big veggies. of course we all know the outcome of the story - the baby asparagus saves the day and proves to everyone that little is only in size not character.

the video also shows you that you don't need to make yourself into something to be more interesting and have people like you. Larry boy takes to dressing up like a super hero to achieve this lofty goal. he realizes on the end that he likes the way he was and while it's fun to play pretend it's wrong to pretend to be someone you're not.

I learned that while I think my two littler ones may not be able to do something, I need to give them a chance to try - they may succeed or they may fail, but at least they tried.

we like this video and in our house veggies are no longer only to eat, but also to watch.
