Author's Review
For anyone considering a computer game for a young Hello Kitty fan, this one is definitely worth checking out. Kitty brings us into her world, Cutie World and introduces us to her friends. Cutie world is comprised of eight games: Lullabies, Mahjongg, Sweet Tooth, Memory Matching, Creative Kitty, Penguin Paddle, Balloon Fun, and O Starry Night.
From the main screen you are greeted by Kitty who is holding up a small marquee sign. When the cursor is moved across any of the eight game icons a picture appears to indicate which game corresponds to that icon and the sign in Kittys hand changes to the name of that particular game. As usual, on with the games
Sweet Kitty Lullabies!
This is one of the harder games of the set. The object is to catch the snowflakes as they fall from the sky but they have to be over a music note bar that is about mid screen. When I played this game I couldnt even make it past level 3.
Hello Kitty Candy Tiles
This is basically Hello Kitty Mahjongg. In this version the tiles have been converted to lollipops, ice creams, kitties and the like. Its a good, fun and simple game. With several levels.
Cutie Pie Sweet Tooth!
The task here is to help Hello Kitty make tasty, sweet treats for all her friends at the Ice Cream Shoppe. Her friend will appear with a picture of a sundae. The user then needs to make the exact same Sunday using a palette on the left of the screen and click on the serve button to serve it to the friend. You have 15 seconds to complete each Sundae. Points are awarded for the number of correct sundaes served.
Hello Kitty Memory Matching Cards
Most of are familiar with a card game referred to as concentration. Where the cards are flipped over and we turn them over two per turn and try to make matches of like cards. Well this is simply Hello Kitty Concentration. The nice thing about this version is that for younger users in each board there are several of each type of card. This helps hold the younger players interest as they are able to make a match within just a few tries. This game is one of my daughters favorites.
Creative Kitty!
In this cute little complete the picture activity, users select from one of 5 backgrounds: the kitty living room, bedroom, art room, a classroom or a school bus. Once the background has been selected it appears in full screen mode. On the right appears a panel from which the user may choose any number of little kittys or one of her friends. These can then be click/dragged into the background as the user wishes. There are several different types of kitties to be chooses from in various activities, poses or costumes. There are also other icon/pictures to add like flowers, birdies, cakes and the like. The user can create an adorable picture and then print it out for posterity.
Penguin Paddle!
Ive heard of it raining cats and dogs, but never penguins. In this medium paced game, its raining penguins and kitty is in her boat coming to the rescue. The object is to catch as many falling penguins as possible into kittys boat. Points are awarded based on the number of penguins caught.
What Balloon Fun!
Help Hello Kitty avoid pesky bumblebees and capture beautiful butterflies as she travels in her hot air balloon! This is accomplished by dragging your mouse around the screen to try and bump into the butterflies and not the bees. User receives one point for every butterfly bumped into, but loses 5 every time she runs into a bee. This is a very easy game and great for a younger user as well.
O' Starry Night!
Im not quite sure what the real point to this game is except to perhaps develop hand eye coordination for the user. This is a very easy game that contains 3 rounds and is then over. Kitty is taking a ride into the night on a broom and touching the stars. The stars appear on a kitty themed grid and by dragging the mouse over the stars as they appear on the grid. After the grid is cleared you are then taken to another level, where more and more stars appear.
The graphics in this game are nothing spectacular, it is not 3D or impressive, however it is a well put together game where the graphics more than suit the targeted audience. You certainly won't need to be going out and buying a new graphics card in order to play this.
To wrap things us I would recommend this game to any Kitty collector or for very young children. The older kids around the house have no interest in this game and in fact my five year old is bored with it as well, however when she was younger she very much enjoyed these games. This game is rated E for everyone by the ERSB.
