Product Review

Scientific and conceptual based pathophysiology book

by   akphung ,   Apr 29, 2008

Pros:  Cheap.

Cons:  A lot of scientific terminology.

The Bottom Line:  The book is below average though for a researcher it may show insight to the causes of pathogens.

Overall Rating: 2/5 stars

Author's Review

Understanding Pathophysiology is a textbook that explains the science of pathophysiology. The book relates the processes of pathophysiology to processes in human biology and uses many concepts from cellular biology and micriology.

There are focused chapters on different body system such as integument and reproductive and also based on both a system and particular developmental age group such as "Alterations in Pulmonary Function in Children". There are also several chapters on the biology of cancer, spread of a tumor, etc. Oncology is a growing field and this book can give some fundamental concepts on its processes.

The first six chapters are a scientific based view on a cellular level of basics of biology such as fluid electrolyte balances, immunity, inflammation, and genetic diseases and defects.

Personally I believe there is not a lot of practical knowledge in this book and there concepts and terms are troublesome for students unless they are quite familiar with scientific names for chemicals in the body. Pathophysiology is strongly related to environmental factors and the control of them. Pathophysiology can be purchased for 5 dollars and is only worth reading if its a reading assignment. Otherwise focus on the books related to your career and major.
