Take a bite out of Twilight, you'll like it!
Date of Review: Mar 4, 2008
The Bottom Line: I would recommend this novel to anyone, because it has the right amount of romance, action, and comedy, to appeal anyone's taste.
Before reading Twilight by Stephenie Meyer, I didn't understand all the hype for vampire novels, I had never read one, they just seemed to unrealistic to me. My friends consistent urging to read the book finally wore off on me, and just to appease them I gave the book a chance. I thank them daily.
You would never be able to tell that Twilight, is Stephenie Meyer's first book.
The story begins with Isabella Marie Swan, better known as Bella, a 17 year old girl from sunny Phoenix, Arizona. Her parents are divorced, so Bella decides to go live with her dad, Charlie, in Forks, Washington, so her mother could travel with her minor league baseball playing step-dad. Forks is everything Bella dreads, too green, always raining, little sunlight, and even though she loves her dad, living with him is guaranteed to be awkward.
Bella is your average teenage girl, well except for her extreme clumsiness. She worries about fitting in with her new classmates, but since she's the new girl, they are immediately taken with her. Except for the Cullens and Hales, but especially Edward Cullen, who seems to loathe her for no reason. No matter how silly it seems, Bella can't stop feeling that Edward Cullen hates her and is missing school because of her. That all changes one day when Edward returns to school and strikes up a conversation with Bella. It definitely changes when Edward saves her life, when a classmate almost runs her over. But it should of been impossible for Edward to save her, and Bella knew something wasn't right, he wasn't normal.
During a group outing to the beach down in La Push, Bella meets Jacob Black. She ask about the Cullens and why it seems as if they weren't allowed at this beach and Jacob tells her tales of the "cold ones", which he believes is all bogus superstition. Cold ones are vampires. Bella looks up vampires online, and doesn't know if she believes it's true. After Edward rescues her for the second time she tells him her theory of what he is, or why she thinks he's different. Edward admits to Bella that he is a vampire, but he thinks of himself as a monster.
After Bella tells Edward that it doesn't matter what he is to her, their relationship grows into something beautiful, and they fall in love. Their relationship is as normal as you can get when it involves a vampire and a human, but then trouble comes and Bella is in danger. When James, a tracker, sees Edwards protectiveness over Bella, he feels a challenge and is determined to kill Bella. Action takes place and Bella has to keep safe and keep her loved ones safe. I wont go into any more details, I've said to many spoilers as it is.
I love Twilight, I couldn't put it down and it kept me on the edge of me seat. It's a combination of romance and action with fantasy thrown in. Stephenie's take on vampires are different than most, but I think it adds to the story.
Go read Twilight now you wont be disappointed!
