Best car I ever had, HL Sport 2008
Date of Review: Aug 13, 2008
The Bottom Line: This is the best car I ever had and I hope I will keep it for the next 10 years.
I bought it a month ago and went in a 3500 km Trip in Quebec province. I had no bad experience with it yet and very satisfied.
I compared that SUV with Honda Pilot, Mazda CX-9, Nissan Muranno, Buick Enclave and even Hyundai VeraCruz. The Toyota had the biggest Motor, with best Towing Capacity and Torque with one of the best mileage on the market. Only the Muranno was better on the mileage.
The Pilot the real competitor and was more fun to drive but was 7000$ more for older technologies.
The exterior look of the Highlander is good but you don't fall in love with it. The interior is very nice and of very good quality material. Mine is in black leather. I like the Dash Board because all the buttons and knob are big so they are easy to find and operate even in winter with gloves. The interior of the Base model (SR%) look cheaper and the seats are very deceiving. Seat support is better with the leather interior.
There is plenty of room inside and you can easily move the seat to get access to the third row seats. The interior is very well sound insulated. You don't hear wind noise or the motor. The is too much cup or drink holder in the front place. There are 6. You can place large bottle in the doors and 4 cup or smaller bottle in the console. We can only be 2 person in the front seat. I removed the separator and converted 2 bottle holder in room to put things. There is a cover on this one.
The glove compartment is very big. In fact it is the biggest I ever saw. You can put all your stuff their. The center console as little space to put things. I use the space under the console to hide large stuff that I don't use too often. This place is normally used to put the small seat between the second rows seats.
The sound system is full of nice features like MP3 CD player, 6 CD Changer and AUX input but the sound quality is not so good. The MP# CD player will show the ID3 tags informations like artist, songs title etc but only 12 character a time. I would have like some kind of an auto scroll for the information.
The 5000 pounds towing capacity was one of the major reason I bought it. I can tow my 3500 pounds boat easily and with a 15 L/100 km gas consumption. When not towing, I have around 10 L/100 km on highway at 100 km/h.
