The Bottom Line: Looking for cheap sound without having to put your wallet on a diet? This is the deal for you. Under $150 at Wal-Mart.
Right away anyone can see that the quality is low. The satalites are all small, the subwoofer is disapointing, and the over-all power of the system is lacking.
My first and biggest complaint is the over-inflated wattage ratings. This is most evident in the sub. The powered sub is supposed to be a 120w piece (probably 50~ish RMS) but it does not sound anything of the sort. My previous system used two 10" subwoofers and an 80w amplifier and there was more punch than I could ever use. One of the reasons I went with a theatre system was to get away from having to power my amp and subwoofers with a homemade 115v~12v recitified powersource. I believe I'll try remedying this by wiring the powered sub to one of my 10" woofers.
The wattage issue is also evident in the satalites, but it's not near the same variety of complaint. The satalites have unbelievable crisp, clear sound...no rattling, crackling, muffling, or anything. Just great sound and they're capable of handling 300watts a piece. I think if I upgrade the system later I'll be keeping the satalites.
The over-all volume is poor. My 450w shelf system will prevent conversation if turned all the way up. This system has to be at full volume to interfere with conversation. It's disapointing because I love having floor shaking, speech inhibiting, neighbor offending volume.
The whole system is light weight. I like that. The reciever is simple and easy to figure out. It's a bare-basics setupd...you can hook up you a surround sound equiped gadget, and two other gadgets. There's also a USB port up front which is convenient.
I think this system is PERFECT for a closed in, small 400sq ft or less room. Though power is small potatos, coupled with my TV and Fisher speaker towers it's plenty enough to make a movie exprience enjoyable. I'd also suggest this for anyone who has a teenager or child asking for a good stereo for their room. I think it's a good bargain.
