Thermador CVS236 Kitchen Countertop Downdraft

Perfect downdraft for the island…………….:

We purchased this spiffy stainless steel down draft for our countertop island to match our 5 burner Thermador gas cook top . I needed something powerful enough to be able to pull in all of the cooking smells and grease, but also beautiful in design to accent our new cabinets and counters.

Turn it on………………………………………………………….

This is a powerful venting system with a blower power capacity to push out air flow of up to 600 cubic feet per minute! In addition to the power, I was extremely attracted to the fact that it is a relatively quieter venting solution. I can not stand background noises and it was absolutely vital that I would be able to use the unit on low speed with good results while not interfering with my sound environment.

This downdraft exceeded my expectations with three levels of power. The highest is louder than I would prefer, but still a quieter operating noise than a lot of the other comparables on the market.

The coolest part about having a downdraft is the ability to push a button and like on Star Trek have the thing glide easily up and down. It keeps the lines in the kitchen clean and attractive, while still providing what I think is the best venting system.

It is very effective at sucking in all of the cooking residue without having to have a huge hood in the middle of the room. We are very sensitive to blocking our limited daylight here in Seattle and this has been the perfect solution!

Even when I am not using the unit for venting, I put it in an up position when cooking as a safety precaution for anyone sitting around the island. It tends to be a nice shield from anything that might splash or pop out.

Cleaning it…………………………………………………………….

The stainless steel is pretty easy to keep clean with just a spray of Windex or stainless steel cleaner. It stays pretty clean most of the time.

The filter pulls right out easily and is dishwasher safe, although rinsing it has been pretty effective for me so far. If you are a heavy meat cooker, then I would suggest throwing it in the dishwasher every once and a while to keep it operating properly.

Side Note:

The installation of this unit was a little more than we wanted to tackle ourselves. It does simply plug into an outlet which is conveniently placed right under my cooktop cabinet, but the venting plumbing is rectangular shaped and the existing plumbing we had was round, so I needed someone else to change that out and make it all fit together properly.

This downdraft does come with a one year warranty form the manufacturer.

Measurements

It is an amazing design for as powerful as it is! This downdraft rises to 10 inches in height to easily suck in the steam from even your tallest pots. It is 36 inches wide and only 1.88 inches in depth! Thermador does make it in other sizes as well.

Lastly -

We have had this for about a year and have been extremely happy with its performance. I would recommend it to anyone with a cook top in the island. I love using it and get a ton of compliments every time people come over.
