The Mask of Zorro ...

Returning home after saving three innocent peasants from death, the original Zorro, Diego De La Vega, puts his daughter to bed. Moments later, his wife is dead, his daughter abducted, and he finds himself a prisoner. The hands of his archenemy, Raphael Montero, brought all of this grief upon him. Twenty years later, when Montero returns to California with a plan that will make him rich, Diego escapes from jail with the dream that he will one day reclaim his daughter and rid the world of Montero forever. With the help of Alejandro Murrieta, his dream may come true sooner than he thinks.

Although I was skeptical of this movie at first I must say that it is very entertaining. Actually, it is one of the most purely entertaining movies that I've seen in a long time, as it doesn't require a lot of work on the viewers part to keep up with what is going on. The movie is just pure fun. Both Hopkins and Banderas play Zorro brilliantly, as they both seem well-suited for the role. The movie contains stunts and action galore. There are many sword fights, as well as plenty of comedy and a little romance thrown in to finish off the mix. The film's many elements work well together and lead to a great movie experience. Although this movie certainly isn't for those who cannot suspend disbelief for a few hours, I think that most will find this movie fun, exciting, and most importantly--entertaining.

Columbia/Tri-Star has once again released a truly magnificent DVD. The video and audio on this disc is nothing short of great. The picture is always sharp and well defined, while the colors are bright and vivid. The audio is brilliant, as well. The sound in this movie is superb with the surrounds being used for all sorts of effects that added to the whole Zorro experience. The beginning scene with him cutting the Z into the screen is great. In the feature department, this disc performs well but at the same time could have been better. There are two main features on this disc. The first is a "The Mask of Zorro Featured"; next, there is a photo album, and finally, the theatrical trailer.

The movie is great and the quality of the disc is hard to beat. I'd have to say give it a try. I did and I loved it.
