Author's Review
This is my 1st write-off I have ever participated in, so I'll try to make it a good one. This is on a 4 or 5 star album. Special thanks to GasJocket214 for having a brilliant idea of making this awesome write off.
Since I am an avid listener to Eminem, I decided to write my review on the Marshall Mathers LP. As you already know, Eminem has a lot of controversial topics, but a unique rapping skill. Growing up in Detroit, where he got picked on and bullied almost everyday of his life, he took his anger out by writing songs. Well, by now most of you are thinking, "This album gets 5 stars by Twix109?..Why? How could she like this guy?" (Most of you don't know that his pictures are all over my door but Shh..keep that on the d/l)
Eminem said most of the tracks on this album should be laughed from beginning to end. People don't take them like that, but if you know Eminem by now, you would. The songs are basically about his whole life, combined in 18 songs.

A Little About Each Song
1. Public Service Announcement
Like the 1st album, this gives you a brief sarcastic message about what slim thinks of you. (Nothing much!)
2. Kill You
This song is about realizing his mother isn't the greatest. (Was she ever?) He says how he is a major slut, and he rapes her. Also, throughout the song, he mentions not to mess with him because he will kill you. Crazy song with a good beat. I had to listen to the song several times to actually understand it, and honestly I still don't think I fully do...anyway.
3. Stan featuring Dido
This is one of the calmest songs on the album. As you already know, Slim preformed this song with Elton Song at the awards ceremony. This song Stan is about a kid who loves Slim and after he doesn't answer, he gets angry. He takes his girlfriend, who is pregnant, and puts her in the back of his trunk and gets into an accident (he tapes it) and dies. The fan mail he gets is pretty unbelievable, and he tries to answer everyones, but things happen.
Chrous:
My tea's gone cold I'm wondering why I..
got out of bed at all
The morning rain clouds up my window..
and I can't see at all
And even if I could it'll all be gray,
but your picture on my wall
It reminds me, that it's not so bad,it's not so bad..
4. Paul (skit)
This is what it says:
Em, what's goin' on...It's Paul...ahhm...Dre gave me a copy of the new album...and...I just...sigh...**** it.
5. Who Knew
This song talks about politics violence, rape, guns, drugs, etc. Slim's saying how he hears how parents don't like this and that but they let their kids do a lot of junk. This song is pretty short and has a beat like the rest. It's actually pretty true in some aspects. Parents make fun of Britney Spears, but they let their 6 year old daughters wear make-up. This is mainly the point he is trying to prove.
6. Steve Burman
Another skit that Eminem had to deal within his life.
7. The Way I Am
This song shows Eminem is what he says he is, and that's that. I wouldn't like to be followed around, and getting criticized about everything. That is what Slim mainly talks about. People look at him and immediately assume things, which is wrong. This song has a good beat. It seems like Slim is a little louder than the other songs. This song affected me. Definitely the best song on the album.
8. The Real Slim Shady
I'm sure all of you have heard this song on MTV, at one time. He disses Tom Green, Dr Dre, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and others. By the end of this song, we all know who the real slim shady is. The chorus is very repetitive. This is more of a selfish song, he's mainly talking about how people try to diss him, but he's the only slim Shady. Don't worry, we all know.
9. Remember Me? Featuring RBX & Sticky Fingaz
Awesome beat, can't comprehend some of the lyrics in the beginning, and it's very loud and sort of obnoxious. Slim talks more about his mother, and he brings up his daughter. Also, he starts talking about guns, etc.
10. I'm Back
Another one of his criticizing songs, very good beat, lots of unique rapping skill.
11. Marshall Mathers
Yes, he wants to kill N*Sync, he wants to see them rot, the chorus explains a lot of this song.
Chorus:
You know I just don't get it
Last year I was nobody
This year I'm sellin records
Now everybody wants to come around like I owe em somethin
Heh, the *uck you want from me, ten million dollars?
Get the *uck out of here
He's famous, he's loving it, now don't ask for his money.
12. Ken Kaniff (Skit)
SICK...Don't EVER let yor kids listen to this track. Sexually explicit.
13. Drug Ballad
Awesome beat. This song is sort of self explanatory. Slim talks about the drugs in his life, and he mentions his daugther Hailey. Not the greatest of songs because well...it's about drugs...
14. Amnityville
Crazy, Crazy, Crazy Slim! Crazy song talking about homosexuals, his family life, drugs, and violence.
Chorus:
Mentally illll from Amityvilllle (ILLLL)
Accidentally killll your family stillll
Thinkin he won't?
God-damnit he willll (HE'SSSS)
Mentally illll from Amityvilllle **
{HE'SSSS} - on repeats only **
15. ***** Please 2 featuring Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Xzibit, & Nate Dogg
This song gives you a feel that Eminem is sort of an outcast with an awesome flow. The song is mostly about their hometown Detroit, and how they don't trust other people from different areas, etc.
16. Kim
One of the hardest songs to listen to on the album.
Chorus:
Aww look at daddy's baby girl
That's daddy baby
Little sleepy head
Yesterday I changed your diaper
Wiped you and powdered you.
How did you get so big?
Can't believe it now your two
Baby you're so precious
Daddy's so proud of you
Sit down *****
If you move again
I'll beat the **** out of you
This song is about the arguements Kim and Slim have had in their life, and about their baby Hailey.
17. Under The Influence f. D12
Another crazy song with a good beat, and funny lyrics.
Chorus:
So you can suck my **** if you don't like, my ****
Cause I was high when I wrote this so suck, my ****
Cause I don't give a **** if you don't like, my ****
Cause I was high when I wrote this so suck, my ****
Can't you tell Eminem and D12 were definitely high when they wrote this? Crazy, Crazy, Crazy!
18. Criminal
The last song that ends on the album proves that he is a criminal, and too bad if you just don't like it. But if you made it that far throughout the CD, then you shouldn't mind one more song that makes him look like a bad boy!
So that's the album songs.
What I Think
I think this guy is awesome. Look at him, a guy that grew up in a bad city, never had a chance throughout his entire life, and he shines. His rapping ability is UNBELIEVEABLE. Yes, so he is a "white cat" like Dr Dre said over and over again, but if you can prove to the world, that you don't care what anyone thinks, and you can rise above all of your problems, God Bless You! The reason why I like this CD so much, he brings up several different controversial issues. It takes a real man to do this. He talks about homosexualtiy, but the whole world saw him hug Elton John. He's not afraid to say things, and stick by them. His CD, yes, can be very stinky at times. Yes, I know, he can refrain from saying some of the bad words, but hey, our life wouldn't be the same. Some of you might be like, "Okay, you didn't convince me. I rather listen to Blah." Well, I love rap, and I also love hip-hop. Eminem is just hard-core. I don't care much for the pop sensations that he always writes about, and I think his album is one big laughing joke. That's why! :o)
Quotes by Eminem
"I get offended when people say, `So, being a white rapper...and growing up white...after being born white...' It's all I ever hear!" ---Eminem on the question of race.
"There was a while when I was feeling like, 'Damn, if I'd just been born black, I would not have to go through all this'. " ---Eminem on race
"You can't control who likes you. If I got Backstreet Boy fans what am I supposed to do? Turn them away? Whoever likes my stuff, likes my stuff but just know Slim Shady is hip hop, I grew up on hip hop, it's the music I love and it's the music I respect. I respect the culture...that's me" ---Eminem on his fans.
"Whoever likes my stuff, likes my stuff. But just know Slim Shady is hip hop. I grew up on hip hop, it's the music I love and it's the music I respect. I respect the culture...that's me." ---Eminem on his hip hop culture.
