Watch This One

This story is great. It is about a man who is betrayed by his best friend because of jealousy over his fiance, Mercedes, among other things. The betrayal leads to having Edmond Dantes (Jim C.) thrown into the Chateau D'if for 13 years. Jim Caviezel does some of his best acting in this movie. He plays the stunned, innocent victim very well.

He meets a good friend while in prison--who eventually helps him get his revenge against his "best friend" Fernand Mondego played by Guy Pierce. Guy Pierce DOES do an exceptional job playing the loser "friend" and you love to hate him immediately. His character, Fernand, ends up taking Mercedes as his wife as she's learned Edmond has been executed. Dagmara (Mercedes) plays a good part but she's not all that spectacular. Pretty girl but nothing special.

Edmond has another special friend for life who helps him with his revenge. Jacapo. He also plays a very good part. There are some surprises that people will pick up on immediately but doesn't stop this movie from being one of the most entertaining films of the year. Jim Caviezel has also played in Frequency which is another delightful film. Also, High Crimes which was ok.

Guy Pierce has played in L.A Confidential and also more recently The Time Machine. Both movies were pretty good in my opinion---The Time Machine not having a very good finish. But please watch this film and love to hate his character like the rest of us. He did very well.
