A Message in the Hat?

The Cat In The Hat is a well known favorite around my home. I remember reading stories by Dr. Seuss when I was little. I love them as much now as I did back then.

The story is about a little boy and girl who were home alone with their pet goldfish. The children were very bored and it was raining out. They had nothing to do. To their surprise suddenly the Cat in the Hat barged into their home and was standing at their front door.

The Cat in the Hat was ready to liven up their gloomy day, but the goldfish warned the children that the Cat should not be here while their mother was out.

The Cat in the Hat enjoyed showing off. He did many tricks which ended up making a huge mess in their home. Afraid that the children's mother would return home, the Cat was forced to leave the home. Only he left a huge mess behind.

It turns out the Cat in the Hat decided to come back to the children's house just long enough to be a good Cat and pick up the mess that he had made. He managed to pick the mess up and leave before the children's mother came home.

Some parents would argue and say that this book is a bad influence on children. Others would say that this book is harmless. It looks as if the children allowed a stranger to come into their home. Some feel that this encourages children to open the door to strangers and that it would be alright.

In my opinion, I would say that this book must have been written at least twenty or thirty years ago when violence and crime was not as bad as it is today. I remember a time when it was safe to sleep in your home with the doors unlocked. Today in this society this is no longer the case. I do not feel that the author had any intention to send bad advice to children. I think that this book should be taken in fun.

If you can get past this part of the book it really is a cute story. I enjoy the simpleness of the whole story. I can see myself as a child just absolutely bored out of my mind. It would be neat to let my imagination wander and the idea of the Cat in the Hat visiting me would be quite an experience. All children use their imagination. I think that this book helps bring that creative side out in all of us.

This story was meant to be simple, even by the use of simple color in its pictures is amazing. The copy that I have uses only the colors red, white, and blue. I loved the artwork.

Overall, I feel that this is a great story that toddlers love because it is simple and it rhymes. It is also a joy for beginning readers to learn. It is a fun book. Parents love it because it is perfect bedtime story length. It is not too short or too long. I would recommend this book as well as other books written by Dr. Seuss.
