You'll Be In A "Bad Place" Without This Book
Pros:
Original plot, entertaining characters and premise
Cons:
Only flaw (imho): Husband/wife interaction isn't all that well-written.

Author's Review
I hate to see a good book with only a few ratings (or in this case, one), because it seems to indicate that few people have read it. My goal in writing this epinion is to spark your interest in this book enough so that you'll read it. I enjoy most of Dean Koontz's pre-1995 works, (his new work seems formulaic and derivative of previous work), and "The Bad Place" is a strong second behind "Lightning".
This book is quite different from anything I've read before. The book moves along at a nice pace, without being too slow or too talky. The science fiction premise is quite original and extremely intriguing. You have a married private detective that has a brother-in-law with Down's Syndrome, and an amazing gift. One of the detective's clients hire him to find out who he is, because he woke up in an alley with no identification and no memory of who he was or how he got there. As the detective comes closer to finding out the truth about the stranger's identity, it becomes clear that the stranger could be inadvertantly leading him into a very dangerous situation.
It's hard to describe this book without giving away anything, because as you begin the book you're given very little information, and what you are given doesn't make sense until the main characters begin to piece it together. What starts out as a detective story quickly becomes a science fiction story, and by the end of the novel, you're left with a satisfying, terrifying horror novel.
