Great pro-style hood

We were looking for a 600cfm pro-style stainless hood and found this one at a specialty appliance store. We purchased the AK7000AS which is the update replacement for AK7000S. Zephyr changed the control panel and slight change in the dimensions (11" tall instead of 10"). The old design used infrared touch-less controls which I'm assuming were not reliable.

I like the front mounted controls which are easy to reach. Buttons are included for: On/off; Speed +; Speed -; Lights on/dim/off; and Auto off. A small lcd in in the shape of a button indicates fan speed (1,2,3) with a small indicator when auto off is active.

The operation of the unit is quite simple. Turn it on and adjust the fan speed to one of three settings. The unit remembers the last setting used and reverts to it when you turn it on. Even at the highest setting it is reasonably quiet. It draws very well at all settings. A delay shutdown is initiated by a push button which automatically changes the fan speed to low and shuts the unit down after 5 minutes.

The filters are pro-style grates instead of screens. They are easy to remove and replace; and can be cleaned in the dishwasher.

Lighting is provided by two halogen spots which provide good light for the stove top and have two brightness settings.

This unit does not have a ductless option. It can be vented direct out the back (3.25x10) or vertical (3.25x10 or 6" round).

The simple stainless steel styling is a great compliment to any pro-style range.

Options include dual heat lamps (individually switched) for a warming shelf; back splash with wire grate shelves; and a secondary fan to up the power to 1100cfm (changes ducting requirement to 10" round vertical only).
