Author's Review
Let me begin this review by saying this game is top notch. The basic premise is this: you are James Earl Cash a prisoner sentenced to death by lethal injection, but instead of receiving it you are only given a strong sedative. You wake up and you hear the voice of a man known only as the director. This truly foul human specimen is the man behind a series of "snuff" films, which depict people being brutally murdered on film. You are the star of the next installment in the series!
Every aspect of this game is so polished it shines. Even the seedy "hunters" are so awful its thrilling. The graphics rival the best seen on the Playstation 2, and although the story could've used a bit more detail and twists it is still much more interesting than many other games out there. As the game progresses your repetoire of weapons broadens, in the early levels you only have access to things like a plastic bag or a glass shard, but gradually you can acquire things like a sickle, hatchet, baseball bat, and even a chainsaw. The controls are spot-on and the character and gang designs are downright brilliant. When you go to kill one of the hunters your character's stance changes and three arrows appear around the hunter's head, at first they are only white, and the longer you hold down the attack button the more grisly the execution. Some people claim this game becomes tedious because of the repetitive gory murders, but i disagree, i feel it enhances the feeling of terror. Also if you feel stealth games are relatively boring and lack the excitement and shooting of other games, Manhunt switches gears from stealth to frenetic shooting sequences which are as equally enjoyable as the stealth portions of the game. In conclusion, this game is definitely not intended for children, and it delves into the macabre like no game seen before it. I loved it.
