For 13 years, I have turned to TIME for news more than any other magazine.
Pros:
Informative, keeps me somewhat up to date on world events
Cons:
It can be pretty boring sometimes!!
The Bottom Line:
If you are interested in reading news magazines, Time is a well written one worth trying.

Author's Review
I first began my subscription to Time in 1988, at the age of 16. I know, what on earth would a 16 year old want with this magazine?? I actually read it cover to cover then. No, it wasn't part of a class project, it truly interested me.
I continued that subscription for a few more years. In fact, my niece was born in 1989. I was able to collect all of the Time magazines for the year for her. She thinks it is really cool now to be able to read the magazines and get a true feeling for the way life was the year she was born. Sadly, when my own children were born, I was not subscribing to this magazine, so they have no such treasures!
What is it about this magazine that keeps me coming back? Hmm, good question! I find honesty to be an important factor in trusting a magazine. I dont trust magazines that dont post letters from readers that are negative toward the magazine. Time doesnt do this. Very frequently there are letters that disagree with a published article.
I find the diversity of articles to be interesting. In my hand currently is the April 2, 2001 issue. The cover story is titled, What Scares YOU?, deals with phobias. In a previous issue, there was a story on global warming, and in another issue, one on gun violence in school. I dont know what stories I will find when my Time arrives in my mailbox. Some issues I plow through because the stories are interesting to me. Other issues get set aside for times when it is quiet and I have nothing better to read.
The table of contents is divided into 4 sections, NATION, WORLD, SOCIETY AND SCIENCE, and THE ARTS. In the April 2 issue, the magazine contains 84 page of world events. The amount of advertisements is moderate at best. There are points in the magazine where every other page is an advertisement!! Given that this is not unusual for a magazine, it doesnt bother me much. One thing I can say for Time, they dont have a lot of those postcard type advertisements. Ever since I was little, I have HATED those cards!!
I have been know in the past to cancel a subscription to a magazine because of the advertisements. If I find an advertisement to be offensive, or inappropriately placed in that magazine, I will cancel my subscription. For instance, 6 years ago I was receiving Working Mother. On the back cover there was a full page color advertisement for cigarettes!! I didnt feel that it was right to encourage MOTHERS to smoke! Anyway, what I am getting at is that Time has very tasteful advertisements. I can not recall be offended by any in all the year I have read it!!
Time keeps my somewhat up to date on current issues. First of all, it is not daily so all of the news will never be current. However for as often as I get to read my daily paper, or get to watch the news, I am usually behind on events anyway. As far as telling you if the magazine is more liberal or conservative, I cant answer. I dont bother with that. I believe things that I feel are right. I have never really learned how to discern liberal and conservative writing!?!?
