Author's Review

I read another positive review of Paula Abdul's Spellbound album. You shouldn't have to be ashamed that you enjoy this album.. Although I agree with you it is not perfect, I think it was a step in the right direction for Paula to go in. When I was a kid and I bought this album, I was a bit dissapointed becuase it wasn't the same "Forever Your Girl" pop music. It was more experimental, and for the most part it seemed a successful collaboration between Abdul and producers The Family Stand. Although the album only sold 3 million copies as compared to the 10 million her debut "Forever Your Girl" sold. And I think by the end of the albums run, public interest in Paula ran low. During her first album, she was on top of the world. By the time "The Promise of a New Day" was released from Spellbound, the press began taunting her about her weight and her singing skills and so began her demise.
When it came time to release her third album "Head Over Heals" in 1995, the hype machine went into overdrive, but alas, it wasn't enough. The album was a return to a more formulac and conservative sound to assure commerical success but the album sold poorly nontheless. The album is actually pretty good, fun pop music. I think part of the reason the public lost interest in her was due in part to the decision Abdul made on Spellbound to dance less and try a newer edgier approach.
Well, if you can't tell, I am a huge Paula Abdul fan and hope she will one day regain her title as queen of pop.
