Product Review

Impressive Sony Sound for an extremely low Price!

by   psymo ,   Aug 21, 2001

Pros:  Handles as low as 25hz, Looks Great, 600 Watts Max

Cons:  Only sounds great when in a small sealed box

The Bottom Line:  Sony has tuned up it's 2000 model to produce the XS-L1035. It sounds great and looks great, What more do you want?

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

I bought this Subwoofer in January of 2001 off eBay. I paid a mere $98 for two of these marvels of modern technology before most other Stores even had them on thier shelves. You can expect to pay around $70 to $90 per subwoofer at a retail store if you were to walk in and buy one today, which is still a great price for this subwoofer.

When I first installed them into my car, I had them hooked up to a Sony XM-752eqx. They received 75 Watts a piece and blew out the rival systems. People would ask what I had in my car and would be surprised to hear Sony. They would be even more surprised when they saw the Amp that was powering it.

When finding an Amplifier for these subwoofers, look for one that has a rated output power of 150 Watts. This means that the Amplifier is always sending out 150 Watts. The Sony Xplod Mobile ES XM-1902GX is a perfect Amplifier for a pair of L1035's producing an RMS of 150 Watts and a Maximum of 380 Watts.

There is only one problem when you look at this Subwoofer. It only really sounds good when it is in a small sealed enclosure. This means it will work in a Vented or Bandpass box, but it doesn't sound as good as if you were to put it in a sealed box. I have mine in a Dual 10" Q-Logic Hatchback Box, Which has been perfect for my Ford.

When I was reading what Epinions wrote for the Specs of this Subwoofer, I noticed that they are incorrect. So I wrote up the correct list of Specs (As listed in the instruction manual).
