SONY MDR V150 HEADPHONES - Best Portable Upgrade
Date of Review: Jun 27, 2003
The Bottom Line: Good stuff for less than $20.00!
I bought my
Sony MDR V150's when I bought my
Memorex CD/MP3 Player. I knew I'd want the
V150s after trying out the pair my cousin owns and seeing so many of my friends and acuantances with them.
The headphones there were included with the
Memorex weren't bad, in fact they work great for working out. But otherwise too much background noise gets in and they don't sound nearly as rich as the
V150s.
I use 'em most when I'm at school walking around campus between classes. They don't work so well when I'm riding my bike because they go over your head so I use the headphones that came with my CD player since they go around the back of your head and over the ears.
Sony uses a "supra-aural" design to create a controlled listening environment. Which is part of the reason the music sounds better and background noises aren't as obvious. The
V150s keep out background noise really well, not perfectly, but really good. The overall sound quality is high. For less than $20, they certainly aren't bad! But I don't really consider myself an audiophile so I'm sure there are flaws but for the average user these are more than adequate! They stand up to daily use really well, even at high volume levels.
The lead on the headphones is nice and long - over 6 feet. This is helpful if you are carrying your CD player in your backpack or even if you're on the computer (but don't want to bug others) and move around a bit. My cousin has a pair of these and he found them useful when he was doing the dishes.
Features/Specs: - 30 mm Speaker Drivers

Should You Consider The SONY MDR V150s? Yeah, I think so. I know dozens of people that have these same headphones and they are really happy with them. I've been happy with mine. Even after getting sat on, wet (lots of rain here), and dropped a few times they still work great. It's almost like Timex, "Takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'!" I highly recommend the
Sony MDR V150 Headphones.
