Good Headphones for the Money
Date of Review: Jan 21, 2008
The Bottom Line: These would be great for casual music listeners who dislike cables and do not make lengthy voice calls.
I used these headphones for a week before deciding on another pair. Overall I liked these headphones but the sound quality was not quite up to par with what I was looking for.
Voice Call Problems I ride my bike often and was hoping to use these as a mobile headset as well. I was disappointed to find this would not be practical. Everyone I called complained that the wind induced static was too much to bear while in motion and was an annoyance while stationary. So after a few days I just gave up on that possibility. (To be fair my current headphones, the
Sony DRB-T50's are equally useless in this regard.)
Sound Quality I found these to be decent sounding headphones. The bass is,however, pretty poor and they do not isolate your ears from outside noise very well. The over-the-ear design wasn't very comfortable and chafes the area behind your ear. They also are not very adjustable. In spite of all of this I do have to give Motorola credit for making wrap-around headphones that stay put. I ride street BMX which involves a lot of curb hopping and falling down... hard. They never budged whatsoever even when subjected to the most extreme turbulence.
Function Buttons The button layout is very intuitive and easily navigable in spite of being out of sight. I didn't even have to read the manual to know what each button's function was. This is an incredibly handy feature for bikers because you do not have to fumble for your cell phone when you want to change tracks, answer a call, or adjust the volume.
Superficial Annoyances On a personal note I do not understand why these companies are so hard set on making 1980 sci-fi movies a reality. Not everything in the future needs to blink every three seconds or look as if it grafted into your skull. While the behind the head strap is forgivable for affording the wearer the possibility of a helmet or hat,the HUGE button on the side of your head blinks constantly. I received numerous comments on it. The only thing I think it lacks is an audible nerd alert alarm and retractable kick me sign.
