Author's Review

I received my Diamond Rio PMP300 for my birthday this past January, and I have to admit that I was initially not very excited about getting it. I mean, I am on my computer several hours every day, and I already had over 100 mp3 songs that I loved on my hard drive, I rarely used my portable CD-player, so why on earth would I need this portable MP3 Player?

However, due to all the hype surrounding this newest and latest piece of electronics, I decided to try out it, since I could return it within 30 days.

The software installed fine on the first try, and the only trouble I ran into was in setting up the connecting cable. It comes with an adapter that plugs into your printer port, and splits it so that both your printer cable and your Rio Cable can plug into it. This is fine, except that it is so big that it literally bends my monitor cable (which is located above it) because it is such a tight squeeze.

Once I got everything hooked up, I selected some of my favorite songs and downloaded them very easily onto the Rio, without ever having to read a help file. It is very simple to understand. At this point, I came to the realization that 32 megabytes is not a great deal of space, especially since I like to have all my mp3's encoded at 128kbps minimum, so my mp3 files are larger than most. As a result, I can only fit between 5 and 8 songs on the mp3 player at once.

However, there is the option of buying a flash card that will let me add another 32mb, so that is a nice option to have.

The point where I decided to keep my Diamond Rio came when I realized that I could take this thing ANYWHERE! I am able to use a tape player adapter in my car, when I go to another computer I can very easily plug those speakers directly into my Rio, and the high quality ear phones that came with it let me listen to this music EVERYWHERE AND ANYWHERE! It is wonderful to be able to take my favorite songs with me everywhere I go!

Best of all, I can add and change new songs in a matter of only minutes, it is so easy to do.

This is a high quality product, it only takes one AA battery, and it is much more practical than a portable CD player!
