Our office is not unusual in that we have a lot of telephones. One of my coworkers and I have heavy telephone contact, and we desperately needed a way to keep the telephone cord from twisting and tangling. That is how we came to use the
Softalk Rotating Telephone Cord Untangler (model # Black 21002).
Description
This cord detangler comes on a cardboard blistercard. The untangler itself is small, measuring just over 1 1/2 long x 1/2 wide. The coloration is black and clear. One end snaps into the handset, and the other end is where the telephone cord plugs into.
What sold me on this product is the following:
* Rotates 360-degrees with telephone movement
* Gold plated metal contacts prevent loss of sound quality
* Longer shaft design (which is recommended for certain handsets)
Our Experiences
This product is easy to install. Simply remove the telephone cord from the handset. Insert the clip-end of the untangler into the cord port on the handset (where the telephone cord would normally go). Then snap the telephone cord into the other end of the untangler.
At first I loved this product. The cord never tangled in all the time I used it! The detangler truly has a 360-degree turn radius. The detangler also looked good on the telephone since the black and clear part matched the black phone. It was not noticeable that the detangler was there unless specifically looking for it.
However, my enchantment with the cord untangler did not last as long as I had wished.
We purchased two of these a little less than a year ago. About five months into using the detangler, I noticed that sometimes when my hand hit the detangler that a static noise occurred. This didnt bother me too much. Then about a month ago, all my hand had to do was nudge the detangler to cause not only the static sound, but the nudge also caused the voice on the other end to cut in and out so that I only heard part of the conversation. I had to be very careful how I handled the telephone.
I kept telling myself I needed to buy a different telephone cord detanger to replace this one. I never seemed to find the time. Then this week my coworker came to my desk and told me that at first she believed she needed a new phone, but when she removed the detangler, the phone acted great. So I browsed through an office supply catalog and picked out two different style cord untanglers that are now installed on both our phones. Well see how well these work.
On my telephone, despite the long shaft on this detangler
it was difficult to remove it when I needed to. The clip release is tiny and required some dexterity to have it release from the handset. I was concerned that the detangler would break off, leaving part of it stuck in the telephone. I definitely wont be purchasing this style of cord untangler again.
Purchasing
This cord untangler cost $6.85 from
W.B. Mason.
Summary
I would research other options before settling for this
Softalk Rotating Telephone Cord Untangler. It did not last nearly as long as I had hoped it would. Its also irritating that this detangler cost a bit more than others I viewed since it had the gold plated metal contacts to prevent loss of sound quality. Obviously, they didnt work very well!
