Author's Review
Simple Scrapbooks magazine has been around for some time now. They advocate a simplicity in scrapbooking. Which helps get pages done with less stress and worry. Their approach is a guilt-free, energizing and fun.
The magazine is for beginners as well as seasoned scrapbookers. I started scrapbooking back in 1997. I have subscribed to Simple Scrapbooks for several years now, along with it's sister magazine Creating Keepsakes. I love them both.
Simple Scrapbooks has a content section that is broken down into Use, Learn, Make & Share. They have lots of great articles by many famous scrapbookers, including Donna Downey! The ideas are easy to do, quick & simple. The layouts have clean lines with great design principles. This magazine offers tons of ideas, projects, challenges, and inspiration with each issue. It is great for anyone that is overwhelmed with scrapbooking. One thing often said in the magazine, is not ever picture has to be scrapbooked. I think many scrapbookers forget this. They also show you a lot of ideas on easier way of scrapbooking. For example, using 2-up or 3-up photo albums if you have a lot of pictures to get done quickly. You can use some of the photo spots for journaling, like a mini layout. I have done this for zoo pictures, since there was no way to get that many into my regular scrapbooks.
The only con that I have had with this magazine is the issues are on the small size. I think for the price, it should be just a bit more inspiration for each issue. Especially since you are only getting six issues in one year.
Many people complain about ads in scrapbook magazines. I however, use those for inspiration as well. A lot of the time, they will have page ideas right in the ad. If not, then the layout of the ad, can easily be turned into a sketch for your own scrapbook page. I try not to look at the ads as a con. I like to take what I can get out of them. They usually are what keeps the magazine alive.
