Cute, romantic - I smiled throughout. (DVD Review)

Date of Review:  Aug 10, 2003
The Bottom Line: Recommended.
Review:
Director Peter Chelsom has a good track record, including "The Mighty". It was a couple of years ago that he started in on "Town and Country", a large comedy with Warren Beatty and a major cast of A-listers; a simple project spiraled out of...

A Fortunate Accident

Date of Review:  Nov 16, 2001
The Bottom Line: A wonderful, entertaining love story with a twist.
Review: Serendipity is an unusual romance that defies logic. It's a story of fate and love unlike any other I have ever seen.

CAST
John Cusack as Jon Trager
Kate Beckinsale as Sara Thomas
Molly Shannon as Eve, Sara's friend

Suspension of disbelief and love

Date of Review:  Oct 14, 2001
The Bottom Line: A very fun love story with great timing.
Review: This is a very cute story. Serendipity - a fortuitous act of destiny or fate. If I were this guy, I would think the girl wasn't interested. After all, she puts him off for 7 years, and it isn't until he's about to marry someone else that he wants to...

Serendipity - At least they got the "Dip" part right. (St. Valentine's Massacre W/O)

Date of Review:  Feb 12, 2004
The Bottom Line: Blech.
Review: The entire concept of "romantic fate" in current film is…….okay, it just blows. There, I said it. It's just used as a convenient excuse for the characters to be rotten people (see: The Wedding Planner). Sure, it's wonderful to imagine (read:...

Have Your Friend Rent It

Date of Review:  Jul 12, 2002
The Bottom Line: Cute love story, however, it's very predictable.
Review: Serendipity is a cute love story. Two people meet during the holidays and sparks fly. They both feel a close bond with each other however, both are already involved. Sara, the female character, believes in fate and decides to play a few games to see...

Not the Chick Flick You Might Expect

Date of Review:  Nov 13, 2001
The Bottom Line: Don't leave it to chance - go out and see this movie!
Review: I had heard almost nothing of Serendipity before I saw it, but I did not object when my girlfriend said she had been dying to see it. After all, I had chosen the last movie, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (which, by the way, was a huge...

Failure to Impress

Date of Review:  Sep 16, 2002
The Bottom Line: A true film to avoid, "Serendipity" witlessly gives us what we know will happen, but only after dragging it out unendingly.
Review: Often the problem with predictable films is, well, they are predictable. There is definitely something to be said about a film where you don't know what will happen next. The insulting thing about a film where you know exactly what will happen next...

A Serendipity Of a Movie

Date of Review:  Sep 28, 2001
The Bottom Line: Great romance that leaves you feeling good when it is over.
Review: While I did not go to the movie theater to see Serendipity, the movie theater was playing a sneek peak so I decided to give it a shot. I like to watch romantic comedies and I haven't seen a good one in a while. Lately romance movies has been leaning...

Why didn't they just call it "Stupidity"?

Date of Review:  Sep 10, 2002
The Bottom Line: Two appealing leads and some good supporting cast members are thoroughly wasted in this pointless and insulting mess.
Review: SYNOPSIS: Two already-spoken-for strangers make a strong connection in a department store but leave it up to fate whether they will ever meet again.

REVIEW: I like John Cusack a lot. Even in his earlier teen-movies like ?One Crazy Summer?,...

Or "When Jon Met Sara" Or "Sleepless in New York and San Francisco"

Date of Review:  May 25, 2002
The Bottom Line: A pleasing romantic comedy that just lacks the depth of the recent classics of the genre. But watch it for Cusack, Beckinsale, and Eugene Levy.
Review: Serendipity is the cinematic equivalent of a domino run. The film takes its time setting up our two leads, Jonathan (John Cusack) and Sara (Kate Beckinsale), setting up their complication (their in the process of having an amazing night together,...
