Doesn't clump strong enough

I bought Feline Pine clumping litter because I hate the smell of traditional clay litters, and I thought that a natural solution would be healthier for my two cats. I use a littermaid litter box which automatically cleans itself mechanically. The feline pine does not clump hard enough to be scooped up by the rake on my litter box.

When I use the litter in a manual box, it clumps hard enough to scoop out, but it's not comparable to clay-based litters for clumping strength. The litter is very lightweight, and resembles saw dust. I find that a lot of particles break off from the clumps which causes the litter to smell frequently. However, the litter in general smells much nicer than other brands with a nice pine scent.

This litter is reasonably priced. A 4 lb bag costs about $3.99. You do not have to use much of the litter, and it is easy to dispose of because it is so lightweight.
