Say hello to my little friend.....the Scarface DVD.

My father is South American. My mother is white. Could I be Tony Montana and Elivira's son? Probabley not, because criminal imigrant and cocaine lord of Miami, Tony Montana, is not going to win husband of the year. Al Pacino plays the Montana, better known as Scarface, through his exploits in the sunny city of Miami, from his immigration to the USA, his method of getting a green card, his low level cocaine dealings to his rise and fall (literally, you'll see) as a major drug baron.

Directed by Brian DePalma, Scarface also stars Michelle Pfeiffer as Elivera, Montana's stuck up cocaine snorting wife, and Steven Bauer as his best friend, and eventual head of security. The supporting cast includes Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio and Robert Loggia. Pacino steals the show of course, with his amazing performance as Tony Montana, the bad tempered, aggressive, drug addicted suit wearing gangster and goes down in history as one of the best performances ever and a definate favourite gangster character.

Oliver Stone wrote the script for this, and it turns out he actually spent months hanging out with and mixing with Miami's drug dealers, users, and gangsters. Must have been fun. So the film oozes authenticity, all you gangsters out there will be able to relate to this one. It is very well written, and it shows the detailed rise and fall of Tony Montana. There are some definate classic scenes as well, such as the infamous chainsaw scene and the final shootout in the mansion. Not to forget all the famous lines, often used in rap music and other movies. I even used one in the title of this review.

Scarface is hugely entertaining to watch, and although running at nearly 3 hours long, it rarely gets boring. There are some slow spots, but its well worth it. However, problems with this movie may be just how violent and "offensive" it all is. There is some 160 F words in the film, and more swear words, even some in Spanish. Theres alot of cocaine sniffing, and dealing. Don't forget violence, people are shot and blown up and all sorts of things, but hey, its a gangster movie, rated R. What do you expect? It's your own fault if you walk away from this movie offended.

The DVD is great, with lots of special features including making of documentaries and cast and crew interviews. Particularly interesting is how they censored the movie for TV. Check it out. If you like gangster movies, which I certainly do, go out and buy Scarface now. You wont be dissapointed.
