Product Review

Cheap, Reliable and Slow

by   daveswag ,   Jun 24, 2005

Pros:  low price, very reliable, no moving parts (unlike microdrives)

Cons:  slow read and write speeds, much higher capacities available

Overall Rating: 3/5 stars

Author's Review

I've been using SanDisk compact flash cards for years in my digital cameras, and I've had absolutely no problems with them. They are very reliable.

The only problem with them is that they, like most cards that do not list their speed on the label, are quite slow. This is isn't very noticeable on devices that transfer small files, but in a digital SLR camera, for example, it limits how fast the device can produce and read data.

Considering that faster cards are usually no more than $10 more than the base models, it's usually worth it to shell out the extra cash for more speed. I eventually opted for an 80x model by Lexar.
