I purchased a Samsung A 950V Cellular Phone in 2006, with the intention of using it for transporting photos, videos, and music, in addition to using it for mobile communications. I purchased the
San Disk 512 MB Micro SD Card for the phone’s memory card slot. I have been satisfied with this purchase.
Information about the Product
Micro Secure Digital (SD) cards are tiny, rivaling my thumbnail in size. They are extremely light and thin, and tend to be used mostly in cell phones. Good thing. Fault cannot be assigned to the manufacturer for the irritating design of these cards, which are easily dropped and difficult to handle. That is the fault of its type. I have to push it in with my fingernail to fit it in the card slot in my phone. I’m a relatively tiny girl with proportionate fingers. I can’t imagine how much more difficult it would be for someone with larger fingers to handle this tiny sliver of plastic.
I definitely recommend using the clear plastic case it comes with. It will help prevent you from losing it.
Contents of the Package
This Micro SD card comes with two adapters. Both are easy to use. Simply slide the Micro SD card into the adapters; one converts it to an SD Card and another into a mini SD Card. Both can then be used in their corresponding adapters.
Usage
Using this Micro SD Card is a no-brainer. This memory card will work instantly with whatever device you insert it into. I simply slipped it into my cell phone and was able to start saving media on it immediately. This is not a high speed memory card, which is something I usually avoid, but I had no problems using this for storing and accessing photos.
I have also used it in my computers’ SD slots, with the help of the SD Adapter. I was able to use it in this way with similar ease, and made transferring data from my PC to my cell phone simple. It even worked in my
Canon Digital Camera with the SD adapter. Performance was decent in the camera, especially considering it is a standard speed card in an adapter.
Storage Capacity
This Micro SD card can hold a little less (some is used for formatting) than 512 megabytes (MB) of data. This was completely sufficient for my use, since I ended up only storing cell phone pictures, a few Word documents, and short cell phone video clips. My cell phone camera is only 1 megapixel, so 512 MB can store a tremendous number of these images. This wouldn’t hold more than 150 pictures on my 6 megapixel digital camera. If you are using this for documents, it will be more than sufficient. Music wise, it is fine for holding a few of your favorite albums. If you’re storing ringtones, you’ll be able to hold plenty, since the files are very small.
Price
I originally purchased this card at Best Buy for $49.99. It has since come down in price and become a much better value.
Recommendation
This card is fine for most cell phone users. I have been satisfied with its performance for storing my pictures, videos, and music. The card design is a bit of a nuisance, but it isn’t the fault of the product and often, phones and other devices that are compatible with this card can only accept Micro SD cards. This is definitely a good option for most people in the market for a Micro SD card, especially with the inclusion of the adapters.
