Author's Review

Intro

I hesitated in trying this game when it first came out because of a review I read. I kinda forgot about it till one day when I was reading some game reviews on a different site. They gave it a really good review. I then went and rented it the next day and this is my review...

Story

Now I have seen a few episodes of the TV show when I was young but when I started playing the game I guess I forgot what it was about. The story of Robotech and the game are really good, in fact thats what got me so into it. Basically a ship from space crashes on earth. We studied and gain all these amazing technologies and other great things. But what the military did not tell the people is the size of the aliens. There forty feet tall. The military has designed these new jets called Veritech mechs which have three different modes jet, guardian and battloid. Eventually the aliens come to earth wanting their ship back. But we won't give it up without a fight and all hell breaks loose.

Gameplay

What I love about this game is you can change into any of the three modes at anytime. Jet mode is like it sounds you burn around tearing up the skies in this sucker. Guardian is a half Jet half battloid mode you can't goes as fast as the jet but you can cruse at a good speed plus you have better move ability. Battloid, which is a full on mech mode, you can't move very quick but you can turn a lot quicker and you just look so damn cool. The game has two modes, story and training. You should defiantly do training first, it helps a lot. These guys can do a bunch a different things depending what form you're in. You get all the fun weapons from the show like the big a## machine gun and those cool missile swarms. Another thing nice about the game is the freedom you have in the levels. The levels are a good size and with the fancy radar system which tells you where your enemies are, above or below you. Now what a lot of other reviewers complain about is that in the levels some things you can interact with other things that you think you should be able to you can't. Like in the city levels you can shoot down buildings but yet you can't step on cars on the street and destroy them. For me this is minor but it is a little weird. Some reviewers made such a big deal about it, like the game isn't worth trying because of it. All the objectives very like defending a building or ship, having to pick up certain items, rescue missions. The whole game has such a nice feel to it. You feel like you've accomplished something every time you complete a level.

Graphics

These new cel shading graphics I think are great. I like everyone was a little worried how it would turn out. It works awesome with this game because it feels like your playing the cartoon. I love how cool smoke looks as it's coming off a building crashing to the ground. I was very impressed with the look of this game overall; it's up there with Metroid Prime and Eternal Darkness.

Sound

Sound I always think is the one the most important parts of the game. With really good sound it makes you feel like you're apart of it all. This game does it very well. Gun fire, zooming missiles, crashing buildings are some of the best I've heard. Voice acting is top notch; no cheese anywhere to found in the dialog. Music works well and is a little catchy.

Controls

Controls are good and not too hard to learn. You can lock on too targets easily; simply pushing the right analog stick in the direction of an enemy will preset your next target. Not much else I can say here, they're not the best but they're far from horrible.

Multi-player

Now I'm not gonna lie to you. I never got to try the multi-player but what I've read else where it suppose to be very good.

Replay Value

This game does have lots of replay. It will probably take you 15 to 20 hours to finish the story mode. But you can go back replay the missions so you can unlock different Veritechs for the multi-player don't believe you'll get bored of this game very quickly.

Conclusion

I don't own this one yet but it's on my list. Do try it before you buy it, just in case this one isn't your style. Even though I don't know a lot about the Robotech show this game has got me interested in it. This game has a great story is fun time when your girlfriend is mad at ya. It's a must for your collection.
