Author's Review

I remember it now, it was the very very same day I just got back from being in Costa Rica for a month. I was feening for videogames and for my grand return I would buy one. I didn't have that much money, and EB games had a pretty poor Gamecube selection, all the games I was planning to buy, they didn't any of them.

So it was a tuff battle between Robotech and Blood Rayne, should of picked Blood Rayne. I wanted SSX Tricky, but then decided to go for a action title. Blood Rayne was even cheaper but I still went for RoboTech, it didn't look bad, oh how I was wrong.

Gameplay : This is not a action game, its a shooter. A poor one with a good idea. Your Robothingy can turn into a human like thing, a plane or a plane/human. There all pretty much the same, but the human has no missiles just two machine guns. BTW you have the same guns though the whole game, which I haven't gottin very far in.

But what makes this game... suck? Its alot of things. But the worst is the TARGETING SYSTEM. You automatically target enemies when you get close, you use the C-stick to switch from enemy to enemy. There is no real targeting, it does it for you. These really makes this game no fun, plus the fact that all you do is hit the Y or X button over and over.

Second, it’s all about the same buttons. L and R make you dodge left and right. This is a good idea that lots of games use. When you’re locked on to a guy you can be all over the place. Also with the A button you can hover or if you a plane you fly. Your suppost to be able too choose different Robots, but all I’ve noticed in difference is the color, nothing else.

Missiles never run out, either does machine gun. That’s just a nother flaw that makes this game way too easy. They tired too make a action game with a shooter style and it backfired... no it destroyed everything. No puzzles, no nothing but dodging bullets and hitting Y and X.

Multiplayer mode is CRAP. And it’s all the auto targets fought, I mean multi player where you are already targeted on the other person, when it comes down too it. Its all about who shoots more missiles first.

It does have options in Multiplayer mode too turn off auto target. But the game was built around it so you just shoot blindly. Flawed flawed flawed.

Overall score: 5.1

Graphics : Cel-Shading, clever. Not the best Cel-shading but it looks good. Sometimes you can't even tell it is cel-shading. But its kinda blurry and undetailed.

Levels look a little blah too. When on the ground the houses look like boxes. Shoot them, and its a flat black spot with cheesy fire effects. Everything runs smooth, there really is no slow down.

You get a iiight feeling of how big your Robot really is by your surroundings. Just the whole atmosphere and world was kinda poorly done. The game does look allot better in space type levels, its pretty impressive. Tons of enemys flying around all over the place, giant spaceship flying about and still no slow down.

But on ground, it’s a different story. Ground looks completely flat and then there’s blocks and stuff for buildings. Oh well they did a pretty good job overall.

Overall: 7.3

Sound : The highest score. Sound effects overall are pretty basic for a game like this. It doesn’t run in any of those fancy Dolby Digital or whatever. But people be talking, this game has a huge story line and whatnot that they speak out for you. I wasn't there long enough too hangout and check it out.

But for a game that speaks out everything is impressive. Not the best voice acting but it works. Laser guns go bue bue. Missiles sound cool has they unlock from you then blast off. You can also hear the battle all around you cracking.

Music is a little stiff, and quite. But it works for a game like this. They did a pretty damn good job overall on the sound, gotta give TDK credit for something.

Overall: 8.2

Overall : I'm not a fan of this game. Buy it from me, go ahead. Ehh I wasted 20bucks on a game I played for a day, if that. A major disappoint, this game does suck I warn you now.
