The Princess Bride - pull that pirate w/o over I'm comin aboard!

Date of Review: Sep 19, 2002

The Bottom Line:  Bottom what? Bottom of the ocean is where ya'll be if ya don't own this movie!
Ahoy there! I'm crashing this here Talk like a pirate write off and if there's any objections know this: I do have big sharp swords a-hangin on me wall! Ar ar ar!! Check out the entries by Alkaiser, Sixkillz, Xeno3998, and Search66 if ya don't wish to be walkin the plank!

Now come aboard so we kin gets on to the review of The Princess Bride!

Seems we have this young lad by name of Westley who is ever so maaaadly in love with some wench name of Buttercup. Now, bein' he's a lowly farm hand and all, our young scalawag doesn't think himself worthy of Buttercup and goes off to seek his fortune (and a really cool black eye patch). heh. Typical male, aye? Saying he left onacounta he looves her? What kinda logic is that anyway?

Along the way our dashing Westley runs into all manner of ruffians, and his precious Buttercup gets kidnapped! Having taken over the personae of a very famous(or is that infamous?) pirate, Westley pretty much keeps the upper hand. I mean, just look at the size of that sword!
*fans herself* And I assure ye he DOES know how to use it.. *cough*

Westley: I told you I would always come for you. Why didn't you wait for me?
Buttercup: Well... you were dead.
Westley: Death cannot stop true love. All it can do is delay it for a while

Cary Elwes (Joan of Arc: The Virgin Warrior, Robin Hood: Men in Tights, Kiss the Girls)plays our studly farmer-turned-pirate and does a maaarvelous job at it. Both gorgeous and daring, he steals more hearts than just Buttercup's! Elwes is just too cute for words and his comedic timing is excellent.

Robin Wright (White Oleander, Unbreakable, Moll Flanders) plays the fair wench Buttercup, who is the cause of a great deal of ruckus! Wright does a fine job as the damsel in the distress. Wight was the perfect pick to play off of Elwes. They just look like the perfect couple! The chemistry was palpable.

Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father: prepare to die. Now, offer me money

Mandy Patinkin (True Colors, Dick Tracy, Alien Nation ) played Inigo Montoya, a man in search of the miscreant that killed his father. Patinkin is just a multi-talented kinda guy and fits perfectly with the rest of the cast.

Also in this masterpiece of a period comedy you will find the brilliant performances of Billy Crystal, Peter Falk, Carol Kane, Andre the Giant and Chris Sarandon...all of whom will have you rolling!

You mean, you'll put down your rock and I'll put down my sword, and we'll try and kill each other like civilized people?

Who's fault is this?
The folks who are makin ya wet ya pants laughin are none other than Rob Reiner as both director and one of the producers, Norman Lear is the executive producer, screenplay is by William Goldman. This is utter brilliance combined into umm the epitome of brilliance. Yeah, that's it!

The DVD
As if all that weren't enough to make ya go steal.. err.. buy, I meant BUY.. a copy of this masterpiece, the DVD comes with a Collectable Booklet and the origianl Theatrical Trailor. Both wide-screen and full screen options are included.

Cap'n's Orders
If ya'v nae seen this yet, well... ya may as well jump ship now cuz yer a pitiful dreg! heh. OK ok.. ye'v still a chance to redeem yaself.. go buy it! This belongs in anyone's collection of medieval/Renaissance, comedy, pirates, oh hell.. it just belongs in your collection period! Oh yeah.. did I mention it's brilliant?

Have fun stormin' the castle!

Rated PG..suitable for absolutely everyone.
