"Anyone want some popcorn?"
Date of Review: Apr 17, 2000
That's possibly the most common phrase in my house. Between my roommate and myself, we often find ourselves with a house full of friends, be it the monthly poker game, a gaming session, or just movie night with our girlfriends, popcorn is always the safest choice for a snack.
When doing something alone, I use microwave popcorn because it's fast and makes the perfect amount. But for groups I get in the lower cabinet and pull out the Presto Hot Air Popper and the three quart mixing bowl.
The Presto Popper is faster and cheaper than single serve microwave packets, and you seldom have any unpopped kernels left over from the effort. The device holds almost two cups of unpopped corn, although you better have a very large guest list if you use that much at once!
The diverter has a handy little butter holder built into it. This thing is great for adding just a hint of butter flavor to the popcorn as it makes its way to the bowl. It has small holes for the melted butter to drip onto the popcorn as it finishes. You can even add other spices like salt or garlic to the butter and it will be applied at the same time as the butter.
Best of all, the popcorn can be made without anything added to allow each person to make theirs the way they like it.
There are really only two minor drawbacks to using this product. The first one is the plastic top that contains the butter tray. This thing is very hard to clean by hand and is very fragile. It will crack after prolonged use from the heat, cleaning process, and being bumped around or dropped over time. I have yet to find a replacement for this part, and eventually I will have to replace the entire product. The second problem is that the device must be monitored the entire time that it is in use or the bowl will overflow and turn the kitchen into a total mess. I call this a drawback because it means that whoever is doing the job has to miss out on whatever is going on that calls for the snack in the first place!
This is a great item that no one who entertains groups of five or more people at a time should be without.
