Author's Review
This product was bought for me as a present. I had wanted a bigger TV for my bedroom (I had a 13" at the time) and it's done the job great! The Magnavox 20MS233S 20" is a really good product and worth the average retail price.
The picture is of great quality. There are almost never any kind of distortion of pictures. (Anything that I've ever seen is usually due to cable TV problems, not the TV itself). Hooking it up to a VCR/DVD is very easy and those pictures are great as well on this TV. Hooking up video games and other such consels is also done very quickly and easily because of the front AV jacks.
The Smart Sound and Smart Picture are great features. Although I don't use the smart sound too much, I use the smart picture a lot for switching between picture settings (with it having the settings for personal, movies, sports, and weak signal). It's great when switching from watching normal tv to movies.
It also features a remote control (molded to easily fit the average hand), front channel +/-, volume +/-, and power buttons, sleep timer, a surf button, on screen clock, standard 3 front AV jacks (great when temporarily hooking things up such as video gaming systems), front headphone jack, alarm timer, close captioning, and auto programming.
TV dimensions: 18" H, 19 1/2" L, 18" W. Because of the size and design, it fits nicely on most surfaces and doesn't take up a whole lot of room.
Remote Control Buttons: Menu, Power, digits 0-9, Channel + and -, Volume + and -, Clock, Surf, Smart Picture and Sound, Status (which displays on-screen the stereo and channel), Closed Captioning, Sleep, A/CH (last channel) and Mute.
On-screen Menu Display Options are:
Picture (allows to further manually control brightness, color, picture, sharpness, tint, and contrast plus).
Smartlock (allows you to "lock" the TV by use of a 4 digit code)
Setup (controls languages- English and Spanish, whether or not the TV is set up for cable, to manually edit channels, and also auto programming- where the TV auto detects which channels are actually in use, easily getting rid of all those "snow" channels).
CC - (closed captioning, has options of CC1, CC2, CC on Mute or CC off.) The closed captioning is a nice size on the TV and is shown either above or below the picture (depending on how it was set up) to minimize invading the picture.
Stereo- allows the speaker stereo to be turned on/off. (Like for if you want mono or stereo)
Clock On Screen Display:
Allows options to set the clock, whether or not the timer is active, set the channel for the alarm, and set the start time.
I'm one who usually sleeps with the TV on at night, so having a TV in my room is pretty important to me. This TV fits all my needs, and isn't too heavy, as I carried it myself when moving in and out of college. In fact, it's a great college TV, with the bigger picture, and is easy to move around.
The only thing that I don't like is that there are no rear AV jacks for easy cord hiding, but other than that, it's just a good product overall.
