Author's Review

I have bought this camera more than a month ago and was pleased with the image quality and even with low light performance. I also liked low light performance because of my old sony hi8 camera's bad performance. This one is much better, still, some say cameras with one bigger ccd (like most sonys) are better in this field (also noisier and can capture more colour information in low light). Well it's a solid quality and colours are as natural as possible. I liked the fact that it has some manual controls external mic input and some other features not seen in most sony's. Still it doesnt have a fancy touchscreen and other bonuses wich I don't mind. What I didnt like was the fact that I had to format DVD's and could only finalize them with the AC power adaptor. Besides after I recorded the three RW in standalone reader mode I had to finalize them in order to play back in my DVD. The second time I formatted a DVD-RW's I chose DVD-VRW format and it started to record fine but some time after I got some error (with one of the discs) when I tried to finalize. Yet I could write a bit more before I got a serious error with the disc and tried to clean it and nothing. Afterwards I just got it working inside of my camera and I passed it to my pc using the cameras software which I thought didnt work (I tried in my notebook and it would just hang reading the CD and did nothing) the camera's software just sucks. Afterwards I was using the software in my dektop and after some time waiting to recognize the CD it worked just fine and I was able to export the video to the PC (although it took some time 15min/DVD +/-).
Concluding the software that comes with the camera is crap. Rarely works (only for DVD-VR) it's slow and hangs a lot. Copying 3 miniDVD to a big DVD is very time consuming if possible with the included software.
I would recommend to use a different software and format DVD's as readable by standalone players so you can use a different software (DVD-VR is somehow encrypted and not readable). Well, for the most people just stay away from DVD cameras as they are unreliable and time consummng because cd's are slower than a HD for example. If you are just an occasional point and shooter and prefer to have movies associated with small DVD's go ahead and buy it. But forget if you plan to use RW over and over and get the data into bigger and cheaper DVD's
