Author's Review
We have four televisions in our house that run the gamut from an ancient Zenith with the usual broken remote, no conventional input connectors to speak of, and off-white picture to the Sony 27" to the newer Sony Wega TVs. When we decided to buy a TV for the bedroom, my first thought was Sony. We already had 2 Sony televisions that worked great and I really like the brand. However, as you can guess since this is a review on the Panasonic CD-20D10, we ended up with a Panasonic television instead, and not by accident.
We spent a fair amount of time checking out various televisions in stores and researching online. Ultimately, we purchased the Panasonic simply because it had a better picture for it's price point (which is about the same as the Sony). True, the Sony WEGA televisions are sharper, but they also cost significanly more. They are also much heavier, which worried me since we were planning to mount the television on the wall. The Panasonic picture is really crisp, and the black is extremely black. A couple of side-by-side comparisons (just in case the demo televisions were looked at were damaged in some way) convinced me that the Panasonic picture was simply better. It has a nicer feel and the image is richer with deeper blacks and more vibrant colors.
Once we brought it home, we found a few more pluses (however small they may be). First, the menuing system is more intuitive and easier to work than my Sony televisions. Second, the ability to have labels with blanks is nice. I hate have channels labeled FOXX or FOX_ on my Sony because you have to use all four characters and there is no blank. Not so with the Panasonic. The remote is well-laid out and easy to use in the dark. There's a sleep function which is perfect for a bedroom TV. The sound is clear and has a wide range. We haven't used it for anything other than cable television yet so I can't comment on it's capabilities with DVD players, game systems, etc. However, based on the picture quality, I expect it will be a great performer.
Overall, we are extremely happy with our purchase and would gladly purchase another Panasonic television (although we definitely already have too many TVs in the house as is).
