The Sony SCPH-10420 Remote Control is a handy little tool that I think every PS2 owner should have. It provides easy control of DVD playback on the PS2, and it also allows you to turn on, reset, or turn off the PS2.
I picked one of these up on eBay recently for about $12 and it's really handy. I can press the green power button to turn my PS2 on from anywhere in my room. If I want to put it in standby, I simply hold down the power button for a few seconds. If I want to reset the PS2, I can press the green power button and it will reset. There is an eject button on the remote, but unfortunately it doesn't work with my slim PS2. This is because the slim PS2 has a manual eject button, so it is not possible for a remote to eject the disc. If I had a 5000 series PS2, the eject function would work. However, neither the power or eject buttons work on the original PS2s (3XXX models), but everything else should work if you have an IR receiver (not included with this model).
The remote is just the right size, fitting nicely into your hand. The buttons are arranged in an easy-to-find way, with all of the DVD buttons on top, and all of the standard control buttons on the bottom. It has all of the buttons a standard PS2 controller has, including x, circle, square, triangle, R1, R2, R3 (pressing down on the joystick on a controller), etc. It does not work very well for actually playing a game, but it works great for scrolling through menus in games, although it's probably easier just to use the controller.
When watching DVDs, the remote works like a charm. It does exactly what you want, and there is a button for everything you could need. It has play, pause, stop, scene search, fast forward and fast rewind, slow motion, subtitles, A-B, etc. Everything accessible in the on-screen DVD menu by pressing 'Select' has its own button on the remote, making it very easy to do what you want.
This remote beats any 3rd party remotes you can get for the PS2. It comes from Sony, so everything about it works very nicely with the PS2.
If you watch a lot of DVDs on your PS2, this is definitely something you will want to get. Even if you don't watch DVDs, this is a handy little tool for going through the PS2's main menu (where you can access the memory cards and such). Its main strong point is for DVDs, though.
