Northstar 951XD Car GPS Receiver

I bought a new 951 two years ago and installed it in my 25' center console. Immediately I found that within 15 minutes of startup the screen fogged to a point where it's tough to see the waypoints. My dealer said that all his Northstars had the same problem. He sent the unit back to Northstar, it was returned "fixed" with the same problem. When my dealer called Northstar their response was to say that this was due to a humid environment (Cape Cod Bay), and they wouldn't replace it.

If you're not using this product in a humid environment (ie on a boat) I'd recommend it highly, as the functions are unparalleled when you can see the screen. However, for most people this is a very expensive product with a guarantee that's not backed by the manufacturer. While they may have fixed this with the color version, I would recommend asking other owners of your specific unit before buying, as the company will not replace the unit if it's defective.
