Author's Review
What's not to love about a car with a semi-sexy body, 2 doors, almost 300 hp, and exhaust sounds that betters the Porsche 911.
Engine: the engine is great, a 3.5 liter V6 with about 300 hp, which pulls strong to 6700 rpms. It feels actually faster than what the speedometer reads, which is good in that I FEEL like I'm going fast, without risking traffic tickets or accidents. It's relatively reliable, regular oil and tune ups. I installed a pop-charger air intake, which probably gains about 5 hp and lets the engine breathe better. I really like the torque curve as its give good power band below high rpms, unlike a Honda S2000. Thumbs up.
Transmission: Wow! Get ready for a leg work out. I have driven many cars, but I'd have to say I never thought a Japanesse car's clutch would be so heavy. The heaviest clutch I've drive was a Alfa Spyer. The Z has no or less assist than say a Acura GS-R or BMW 3's. You have work at it to get that SWEET spot, or risk jerks with every shift. But when you get it right, its good. Its not precise as a Honda/Acura type which is sad. Thumbs sideways.
Handling: Wow! I love the Z's steering and handling. So tight and responsive. Some understeer, but hey what the hell. Nice drives on twisty roads. Thumbs up.
Interior: Jeez, Nissan spent all the $ on the engine and chassis, which is good. This aint no bimmer or even a Acura RSX. But it is sporty and the basic trim has its raw appeal. Thumbs sideways.
Trunk: 2 golf bags really fit. Thumbs up.
Final: Thumbs up!!! For $28K up to $36K, you are getting a car equal to a Porsche of yester year or even better, say a 1989 911. I mean the Z aint no 2007 911 beater, however, for less than half price of a new 911, I think Id rather drive the Z and save the money or buy two. I really recommend this car.
